Chowking’s Chorizo Chao Fan – Exaggerated Food Poster

Share My officemates and I dined in at Chowking along Buendia the other night. It was a breeze ordering and there were no troubles for our food to be delivered. Well, except for one very comical observation I had on my officemate’s order.

My officemate (who doesn’t want to be named) not knowing what to order - settled for Chorizo Chao Fan which she'll try for the first time. What was her reason for getting Chorizo Chao Fan? She was really enticed by the food poster. Who wouldn’t be? Look at the picture below. It looks like a complete meal and yet economically priced, right?

"Fairy Tale Food Photo"

But when her food arrived, it was a different story all together. When she removed the lid, she was stunned from sheer disappointment.

"In Real Life"

To add to her annoyance, I asked her: Kanin lang kakainin mo?” (You’ll just have rice?)

“Eh tignan mo naman kase yung picture. Ang dami-daming toppings kaya okay.” (Look at the food poster. It’s overflowing with toppings etc)

“Okay lang yan. You have 5 mini strips of fried egg naman”. (That’s okay. At least you have 5 mini strips of fried egg.) I goofed.

The three of us laughed our heart out for falling victim over an effective marketing strategy or let’s just say, “A Ploy to Deceive the Consumers” - In a blatant kind of way that is.

Eventually, my officemate had to order something else. She can’t eat rice with 5 strip of fried egg.

Di you guys complain?
I think it's best to.

Nakakatawa naman yung dumating na chao fan.. parang kiddie meal. LOL

Hi author,

I am an affiliate of the Chowking. Please tell us the exact time and location so we can raise this issue to the branch. What we are really after for is total customer satisfaction and not an experience like this.

We are sorry for this, really.

Hi Fierce Blogs,

I had the same experience. I was really tight on budget that why I ordered beef chao fan. When my food arrived naawa ako sa sarili ko. It's like ordering am plain rice na accidentally na natapunan ng konting toppings sa kitchen HAHAHA

Galing!

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for your comment.

So, you are an affiliate of "the" Chowking. LOL

If you think we are after some cheap freebies and all, think again. I read your email. I am not removing this blog and will stick to our gun :)

Enjoy your stupid Chao Fan LOL

Parang dalawang subuan ko lang yan eh.

Seriously, our government needs to be on top of false advertising in our country. This is only one of the millions of marketing ploy that ur government completely ignores. There should be a regulatory board who will constantly audit such discrepancies....

Until then... we can only see false advertisements. Who will suffer? Tayo lang naman na consumers... Sad...:(

i dunno why what happened, happened.. but i think there's something to be learned out of this. as a paying customer we should not let false advertisements put one on us. we have the full right to get what we pay for. but then again, in this case, is the 4mini strips on a half filled bowl of colored rice worth P49? maybe yes, maybe no... but to advertise it as deceiving as chowking did is really not acceptable... there shud be some org that oversees these stores for their 'truth in advertising' thing... is it PANA?

This is one reason why i don't like fastfoods... i'd rather pay extra for a decent and tasteful meal paired with excellent customer service... and i wont compromise

Aside from this incident, there are a lot of things to hate about "the Chowking" :)

Number one on my list is their inability to serve the customer in a timely manner (thats why I was slightly surprised when you said the service was fast). I have never eaten on any chowking branch that actually served my order before I nearly have a near death experience because of starvation!

I understand when they say that because "niluluto pa eh"...but isnt every fastfoods food is also cooked?

oh well, thats is probably the result of being popular and all...

Ano ba yan. I'm craving for Chowking pa naman. hehe.

I still like the food in Chowking. Masarap naman. Yun nga lang, your experience will either be bitin, or the customer service is real bad.

Totally agree with Jason.. we need to have a dedicated board to keep it real... Otherwise consumers will be the one to suffer... and more money for these people.....

Thanks for reading :)

as usual, there's no law for that here..i think in the states there is...false advertising...like you can really complain if what they serve does not look like what their ads promised...i remembered that movie with Michael Douglas, where he had to hostage the burger joint for giving him something that's really not what is on that moving board ....

so sad....but then again, i dont think you have a lot of choices there sa buendia in your shift hours...hehe

This is hilarious! I don't call this effective marketing. People will buy it once and most probably not again.

"..please tell the exact time and location.." hahaha again! as if it would matter! so what, if you don't have the exact time and location, you can't do anything about it? besides, i think this happens everytime so they may check their product/s anytime!

Hi, just tonight I had a really bad experience with Chowking. I ordered for their new meal, duets with these kangkong and sweet & sour fish fillet with a pineapple chunk toppings. To my dismay when I ate the pineapple it was spoiled. Yuck.. it tasted so bad and so I made a complaint to the head but they refused to admit that the pineapple was not in good condition. They didn't even ask for an apology. So maybe they're trying to make me appear as the one stupid? So bad..

Eric Capacia's Fierce Blogs on July 21, 2010 8:58 AM said...

@ Chez... Go on and continue that complain. It is your right as a consumer to complain if you are not happy with the product that you purchased... They should learn from this :)

That's the reason why I hate going to CHOW KING (eve if some of the food taste good) are the servings. The food are very different from what you will see in the posters. I had similar experience several times. I agree that it is“A Ploy to Deceive the Consumers”

Just now, I ordered online. Something was wrong with the chowking website so one of their staff called me. I told her that I couldn’t hear her properly. She repeated her order, and then suddenly HUNG UP on me without letting me finish what I was going to say. I sent her a text saying “ano ba yan binabaan lang ako” but didn’t get an apology. She apparently ignored it and sent another text to “please confirm your order.”. So I sent her another text telling her I was cancelling my order. No reply. Not even an apology.
